Chiang Mai Municipality is granted membership in the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC) in September 2020.

Implementation of the Learning City Initiative by Chiang Mai Municipality, civil society, communities, and young people in the Chiang Mai Municipality area, resulting in education of, and action by, Chiang Mai citizens with regard to urban development.

Learning about ecosystem and heritage along the Ping River, building relationships by raising awareness and facilitating learning, allowing residents and visitors along the riverbank to learn, reflect, and appreciate the value of the area with each other.

Khon Khao Ya Khu Chiang Moi is a festival designed to help establish a mechanism for co-existence of the Chang Moi community and Yi Peng tradition, organized by the public sector in collaboration with the Chang Moi community of Wat Chomphu.

Visiting the area and experimenting with “community resource extraction”, based on the main points of People, Place, Object, and Memory, in order to develop urban learning for young people within three communities: Khunkham Ma Samakkhi, Pa Ha-Nimman, and Chang Moi.

Extraction of 5 important issues in 2022 regarding the urban environment of Chiang Mai via learning activities, including lack of green space, Chiang Mai’s heat island, PM2.5 pollution, urban food security, and management of Mae Kha Canal.

Learning and action by Chiang Mai citizens for urban development via participatory learning activities and development of prototype areas/issues in the creative economy and urban environment.

Chiang Mai Municipality prepares to announce the appointment of a committee to promote urban development, and aims to submit a proposal for the UNESCO Learning City Award, in order to improve the quality and efficiency of learning within the city.

“Chiang Mai Learning Ecosystem to Enhance the UNESCO Learning City”, the driving force behind Chiang Mai Learning City, enters its 4th year of operation with the primary goal of “supporting cooperative mechanisms, connecting learning ecosystems, creating value and opportunities for people within the city”.

“Chiang Mai City Forum” Year 4, 1st occasion. This activity is not solely a meeting and exchange between network partners that have collectively promoted the city over the past 3 years, but also provides an opportunity to gather opinions, ask questions as to readiness, and jointly form guidelines for participatory methods of promoting the city.

Yi Peng Festival of Light, learning about the areas of Mae Kha Canal and Chiang Mai Night Bazaar, the Kong Chang community, Loi Krathong Festival, and Sri Don Chai Bridge, with activities to facilitate learning around Mae Kha Canal and the Old City in order to promote Chiang Mai as a UNESCO Learning City.

Workshop to develop plans for the potential of Chiang Mai Learning City according to the concept of Community-Culture-Based-Demonstration Events and key features of the Learning City, with participation in supporting and improving approaches to lifelong learning.
